SPRING 2015 UPDATE!
04/10/15
As most of the country is enjoying warm days, budding trees, and regular spring time weather, us Yoopers are enjoying our typical spring time weather that consists of snow that is sitting on top of all the snow from the winter that has yet to melt. I guess it just means we get extra time to enjoy being out ice fishing, and maybe get out for one last snow shoe adventure.
This past winter was pretty hectic for us, between school work, new jobs, and new friends. So the website was put to the back of our minds for a little bit. We did pretty well fishing for whitefish and pike this year but we forgot to take many pictures. Rabbit hunting was a little slow you could say. We got out maybe 3 times total and came home with a total of 3 or 4 rabbits. The rabbit population didn’t seem to be suffering this year, we just couldn’t find the time to get out.
Our spring time plans are going to be revolving around 3 things this year. Those three things would be; fish, turkey’s, and mushrooms. While we are finishing up fishing for salmon through the ice right now we won’t stop chasing them until ice up in the fall. We will be trolling and fishing the river mouth’s this spring which we will try and get pictures of this time! Within a week or so we will be making our yearly trip down to Menominee and trying for walleye in the river which is always a blast! A week or two after we get back from fishing there we will be hitting the streams around here for suckers. It may be one of my favorite types of fishing there is, and we put the fish to good use between smoking them, canning them, trapping bait, or cut bait for fishing. And finally we hope the snow will be gone by the turkey opener. We have 4 or 5 guys participating in the season this year so we will hopefully have a story and pictures to follow.
To close out this update, if anyone actually is reading this you will be ahead of the game. Within the next few weeks we will be looking to add some people as contributors to our site. There aren’t any qualifications that you have to have. Basically we would like someone with a passion for the outdoors, be able to write some articles and take pictures of their trips, and preferably be located in the central U.P. but we encourage everyone to send in their information since we could possibly open it up to areas including the lower peninsula or Wisconsin. To apply just send us your information, maybe some pictures, and a paragraph or two on why you would like to join us. Send your info to [email protected]!
